Default making your own calls

Anybody tried making your own calls? Did a search and found reeds available...... and a friend of mine has some lathes......and kicking the idea around to make some. OF course I can't blow them worth a darn, but I might have to let my son be my field tester and caller.

Somebody has go to test them out - lord (and the ducks) know his calling is ummmmmmm, it could just be a little better -- but come turkey time -- I just sit there, shut up and let him do all the work

Be ready for coyotes to -- for some reason, I guess some of his turkey calls sound like a dying bird

Here's the kick in the pants about making calls, there all the same, to some degree. From predator calls to duck calls. The material costs just about the same money. You have your block material , wood or acrylic , Mylar for the reed and a tone board. With a couple of tools and a starter kit you can build your own. The trick is tuning the call for the sound you want. It takes the same time to build a predator call as it does a duck call, but you will pay 5 time more for the duck call than you will the predator call. Don'T ask me why, it just does. I keep telling Bryan that he could build duck calls and sell them for 50 to 60 bucks and make a killing. He does great with all of his other calls, I just can not get it through his head.
