This was my best buck ever and I got him with a bow! Here's how it went down... I'm off work this whole week, its my favorite time to hunt, deer are just starting to rut, nobody's in the woods, and I have my bow. The previous two days had been cold and extremely windy. I'd been trying to knock down a few more does since my first harvest earlier this month, but had no luck seeing anything to this point other than a few bucks, all of which were small. After this particular mornings escapade with small bucks, and turkeys I decided to hunt the other end of the oak ridge I'd been hunting. The wind wasn't perfect but I was ready to look at a different set of woods. I got in the stand at 2:30 PM and settled in for the hunt. Turkeys surrounded me by 3:30 PM but I had already killed one earlier in the morning with a shotgun, so I let them walk. At 4:30 PM a doe comes walking in behind me directly down wind. She never winded me, or gave me a good shot. I was really trying hard to get a shot off at this deer. I'm so focused on shooting her she looks back over her shoulder and I totally ignore it. She eased off in the thicket and I never could get a shot. At this point I was getting kinda irritated, but all of the sudden I hear leaves crunching from the direction in which she came (and looked back to). Here he comes! I never looked twice! Full draw, mouth bleat, shoot! He went 50yds and crashed. This was my best deer ever! 13 Points, split brow tine, kicker off G2, and a 3rd main beam. I have never been more happy to not get a shot at a doe, or to have passed up a 10pt. 2 weeks ago.
